Little Fires Everywhere

I’d read Little Fires Everywhere as a novel and it’s really popular with lots of people. It was added to Amazon Prime Video in 2020, so I made plans to watch it. The story begins with a black mother and daughter -Mia and Pearl- moving to town.

The United States is also a society of inequality. It does not mean that there is no disparity in Japan, but the difference is big. In this drama, social issues such as race and gender are included. Some people choose not to talk about these issues. But I feel it is very important that we have the opportunity to get answers for ourselves in an entertaining Drama like this. But Little Fires Everywhere reminds us that there are more than just the weak and the strong. We, humans, are all very complex creatures.

Although the drama is rated average on Amazon, it is very much in line with how I imagined the world to be. My favorite character is Izzy, the youngest, whose naivety and the complexity of her family situation are very understandable.

Elena is very lucky to have two gorgeous houses, inherited from her parents. But appearances and inner life are two different things. She wants to work and raise her children perfectly, but her desire to do so is tormenting her. All the characters are lonely and painful for unclear reasons.

Last little note, this drama has great interiors! Every corner of the kitchen and every flower in the room has been thoughtfully decorated. Check it out when you watch the drama!

See you in the next post!
